Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is balayage?

Contrary to popular belief, balayage is a color application technique rather than a specific color itself. The word itself is actually French, and means "to sweep or paint". Remember that balayage is a lightening technique, rather than a specific color.

  • How is balayage different from traditional highlights?

Balayage is quite different from traditional highlights. No foil is used and the color is painted on freehand. The finished result is less uniform than typical highlights.

  • What is a babylight?

If you’ve got very fine hair and want some noticeable highlights, but nothing as dramatic as ombre or as thick as balayage, then this is the best option for you. However, thick hair clients benefit from this technique as well. Your colorist can help you choose the best option for you.

  • How often should I wash my hair?

Every two-three days. Washing every day can strip hair of its natural oils. It also depends on your hair type. Dry hair should shampoo a maximum of two times a week, oily hair may require washing every day. Normal hair should be washed once or twice a week. But some go longer AKA the no shampoo club.

  • How exactly is a dry shampoo different from a regular shampoo?

As the name suggests, dry shampoos are exactly that – you don’t need to wet your hair to use them. Dry shampoos come in the form of a spray that you can directly apply on your hair – anytime, anywhere. As opposed to a proper hair wash, using a dry shampoo is much quicker and easier.

  • How long will my vivid service take?

Most people fall in the 3-5 hours range. Clients with longer/thicker/more fragile hair can expect longer times of up to 6-7 hours.

  • Is it true that I have to wash my hair in cold water?

YES! Hot water opens up the hair cuticle, making it really easy for color to wash out in the shower. Cold water will help keep your color fresh for longer!

  • How often do I have to come back for maintenance?

I really try to customize each service for that particular clients needs. Some vivid clients come every 4 weeks, some come twice a year. This really just depends on you, your at home care, and your hair goals!
